Wisdom for Living (Evangel Daily Meal Devotional)

Text:
Proverbs 8:10-21

KEY VERSES
(Proverbs 8:11, NIV).

Knowledge and wisdom seem like the same thing at first, but they are different. Knowledge means having information and understanding about a subject.

This is gained by self-study or at school. However, wisdom is the ability to make sensible decisions or judgments even without knowledge and they gain this through the help of the Holy Spirit.

In the Old Testament, God gave wisdom to Solomon. It does not mean that Solomon knew everything in the world. Whenever Solomon had a problem, he would have the wisdom to solve the problem, for instance, One day, two prostitutes came to King Solomon seeking justice.

They lived in the same house. One of them had a baby three days after the other one’s baby was born. One, however, killed her baby by mistake.

She exchanges the dead baby with the other woman’s baby and pretended to be innocent. Both claiming the living baby went to King Solomon for a real trial.

King Solomon tested each mother’s love discerned the real mother, and returned the living baby to its mother. King Solomon solved this problem with wisdom, although he did not have scientific knowledge such as the DNA test of today.

How can we have this kind of wisdom?

When we graft ourselves into Jesus who is the source of wisdom, we become wise. Dr D.W. Kenyon said Christian countries in Europe have produced a great number of inventions and discoveries and have become rich.

They have invented new things because their people believed in Jesus and gained wisdom.

Many people say negative words, “I don’t have wisdom. I cannot do it.” The Lord, however, does not work when we speak negative words.

When we are grafted into Jesus who is wisdom, and when we depend upon Him, we will receive unimaginable wisdom to solve problems in our family, business, and in our daily living.
