Governors under the main opposition party, the People's Democratic Party, the PDP, have said the decentralization of the Nigerian police
could be the only way to stem the rising tide of insecurity in the country.Opposition governors
expressed concern about the recruitment process, neutrality and the ability of
the current community policing system to meet the objective envisioned under
the new Police Act during a virtual meeting chaired by its chairman and Sokoto
State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal.
He is also hopeful
that the newly appointed service chiefs should work without delay and ensure
that the growing security tensions in the country are urgently troubling.
