Despite the country's insecurity, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that the general election scheduled for 2023 will proceed as planned.
This was
stated by Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the electoral body, during a public
presentation in Abuja on Thursday.
The new
electoral act will also govern the polls next year, according to Yakubu.
"Clearly,
these are trying times, but we are committed to holding an election in
2023."
"However,
this is a team effort. INEC is important, but it cannot deliver the elections
we all want on its own.
"As a result, I
appeal to all Nigerians to join hands with us in ensuring the process'
success," Yakubu said.
